Obituary of Eugene T. Ochs

Eugene T. Ochs, 93, of Laurelbrooke Landing, Brookville and formerly of Tylersburg, died early Wednesday morning, March 24, 2010 at McKinley Health Care. Born March 8, 1917 in Leeper, he was the son of John and Mary Philomena Schmader Ochs.
He married Shirley A. Larrow on January 7, 1939 at St. Mary Church in Crown and she preceded him in death on July 1, 1998.
Mr. Ochs served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He graduated from Allegheny College and went on to teach high school chemistry and physics for 39 years at Farmington, North Clarion and Clarion High Schools. He was a member of St. Mary Church in Crown where he served as a Lector and taught CCD. He was a member of St. Hubert's Council of K of C in Crown and served as Grand Knight. He was a member of Allegheny College Alumni Association.
Mr. Ochs was a basketball referee and coach for many years. After retiring he became a skilled carpenter, making many furniture pieces for his family. He was an excellent recordkeeper and kept track of weather for years.
Mr. Ochs is survived by 4 daughters, Cynthia Russell and her husband, William of Sigel, Pamela Schill and her husband, Jerry of Newbern, N.C., Maria Maxwell and her husband ,Robert of Abbottstown, Pa and Lisa Smerker and her husband, Paul of Vero Beach, FL and two sons, Daniel Ochs and his wife, Cindy of Leeper and Matthew Ochs and his wife, Shelly of Dumfries, VA. He is also survived by a sister, JoAnn Vogel of Bakersfield, CA and a brother, Hugh (Frink) Ochs of Ocala, FL. He is survived by 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Ochs was preceded in death by a son, Gary Ochs, 5 brothers, Cyril, Raymond, Robert, John and Arnold Ochs and 3 sisters, Mary Agnes Nash, Leone Byerly and Helen Mealy.
Friends and family my call from 2 -4 & 7 - 9 on Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 27 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church in Crown with Rev. Gregory Passauer, pastor of the church, as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Farmington Township Community Park or Laurelbrooke Landing, 133 Laurelbrooke Drive, Brookville, PA 15825.
