Obituary of Joan R. Crownover

Joan R. Crownover, 92, of Tionesta, passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at UPMC Northwest. She was born in Jefferson Hills, Alleghany County on August 20, 1932, to the late Raymond A. and Alma (Yost) Daerr. Joan attended Clairton High School in Clairton, PA. She married the love of her life, Kenneth Crownover, on July 9, 1955, in Clairton, PA, who preceded her in death on August 23, 2018. She had worked at Weisenthol Grocery store in her younger years, then went to work at US Steel Urban Works. For most of her life she was a homemaker and raising her five daughters. Joan enjoyed gardening, cats, especially her favorite cat Precious, and cleaning, her favorite chore was dusting. Joan is survived by her five daughters: Terri Mathe and her husband Ronald, of Vassar KS, Kathleen Davis and her husband Bill, of Poland,OH, Judy Benzo and her husband Lee Sr., of Tionesta, PA, Colleen Bauer and her husband Jamie, of Lucinda, PA and Tiffany Silvis and her husband Jay, of Tionesta, PA; grandchildren: Kenneth Mathe, Lee Benzo Jr., Tim Benzo, Felicia Deal, Trevor Crownover, Cheyenne Crownover, RJ Silvis, Jaylynn Silvis and Elizabeth Silvis; great grandchildren: Gavin, Brantley, Daniel, Dalton, Zander and Ryleigh; a brother Raymond Daerr of Finleyville, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by an infant grandson and two sisters: Donna Reichart and Elsie Cain. Family and friends will be received Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm and 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Borland-Ensminger Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper, PA. A private service will take place at the convenience of the family.
