Nobody could ask for a better guy - we have known him for 30 or more years. He taught Steve a lot about woodworking since they both had a knowledge of trees & woods. His dad was tough on him just like Steve's dad was on him. Lori - we know you had many laughs & good memories with Jum - just keep thinking of all of them. We'll keep in touch - call us if you need anything. Steve & Shirley Good

I have known Jum since we were very young. Our dads were friends, and all of us used to fish together. One time we found an old arrow in the river and began to play tug of war with it. Unfortunately, I was holding the end with the broadhead, and when I tried to release my grip, Jum pulled it through my hand. Being the ever so resourceful Eagle Scout, he patched me up, and suggested that we don't tell our dads what happened. We never did. Jum and Sam Ward and I worked together on a construction job back in the 1960s, and I learned a lot from these two fellows about mixing mortar and tending concrete block. Many years later, when I got into the ministry, I was phasing out my own construction business, and Jum asked me to work for him. I spent over two years at Briar Hill, and we had a ball. We clowned around a lot, but still managed to get the work done. Jum and I talked a great deal about the Lord Jesus Christ, and knowing that he accepted Christ as his Saviour, I know that I will see him again when my turn comes to leave this world. I cannot adequately describe the great love I had for this fine man. I shall miss him more than I can say. It just does not seem right nor real that he is gone. I am praying for Lori and Ben, Josh, and Sarah and all of the family. May God grant you comfort during this difficult time. Trust Jesus as your Saviour and you will see Jum again.

For many of us, he was a “gentle giant” and a “great friend”.
For his family, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved you deeply and was very proud of you.
Lori, you were the best thing that ever happened to him. You saved him when his spirits were so very low and you nursed him through so many health issues.
For me, one of his “oldest” friends, he was “my brother from another mother”.
Our friendship began in Scouting in the early 1960’s. Jum and I were awarded our Eagle Scout badges, together on January 1, 1965.
We hunted together almost every year. His ability to see deer and his marksmanship were amazing.
No, the photo of a hunter in the deer stand is not Jum. The real Jum stands above his 2007 trophy buck.
God blessed us all just knowing Jum and calling him our friend.
