Stephen H. Lander, 80, of Lucinda, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018 at Shippenville Healthcare and Rehab Center.
He was born March 9, 1938 to the late Henry and Margaret (Irene) Engle Lander, at their home in Lucinda.
On September 21, 1963 he married Elizabeth (Betty) Kinch, who survives, at St. Michael Church in Fryburg.
He was a carpenter by trade for 45 years. He enjoyed gardening, reading and watching Westerns. He liked to be outside mowing his lawn. He loved to tell stories and will be greatly missed.
He was a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus of Lucinda. He also was a member of the Lucinda Antler Club. He attended St. Joseph Church in Lucinda, where he helped with many church functions. At church he ushered and was a eucharistic minister.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by Betty's nieces that they raised from a young age; Marcia Hartle and husband Gary, of Clarion, Linda Taylor and husband Fred, of New Castle, Pa, and Bonnie DeAngelis and husband Ray, of Sarver, PA; a special niece, Carolyn Dethlefs, of New York; a brother, Peter Lander, of Lucinda; a sister in law, Sally Kinch, of Shippenville; and numerous nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ben and Ed Lander; sisters, Evelyn Hoover and Edith Akin; and 3 young sisters.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday, April 8, 2018 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Borland-Ensminger Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper, Pa. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00am on Monday April 9, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lucinda, with Rev. Joseph Czarkowski pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
