Obituary of David L. Bowen

David L. Bowen, 90, of Leeper, died Friday, January 1, 2016 at his home. Born May 18, 1925 in Tylersburg, he was the son of the late Elmer and Mary Ellen (Kahle) Bowen. He married the former Phyllis B. Snyder on February 1, 1948 and she preceded him in death on January 5, 2011. Mr. Bowen served with the U.S. Army during WW II. He worked in the coal mines as an equipment operator. He was a farmer all of his life. He is survived by 5 children: Larry Bowen and his wife, Cindy of Tylersburg; Margaret Slaugenhoup and her husband, Doug of Strattanville; Richard Bowen and his wife, JoAnn of Leeper; Steven Bowen and his wife, Anna of Tionesta and Michael Bowen and his wife, Peg of Leeper. He is also survived by 2 brothers: Arthur Bowen and his wife, Ruth of Florida and William Bowen of Illinois. In addition, he is survived by 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. He is also survived by 2 sister-in-laws: Ruth Bowen of Beaver and Betty Bowen of Tionesta. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Bowen was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Dallas, Earl, Harry and Everett, 2 grandsons, Rickie Bowen and Christopher Bowen and a son-in-Law, Raymond Hummel and a great granddaughter, Storm Hummel. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Scotch Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Blystone, pastor and Rev. Jeffrey Foor officiating. Interment will be in Scotch Hill Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Scotch Hill United Methodist Church.
