I just wanted to share a memory I have of Mr. Wolbert. I've been thinking of him off & on today bc u see 21yrs ago today I became a licensed driver. I want to say thank u for the countless hours after school for about 2months that he came clear over to limestone from Leeper to go drive the country roads & interstate w/me to fulfill OVR's requirement of 30hrs of driving time before they would help pay for my hand controls. He was one of my favorite high school teachers. Still can't believe he's gone.
Love always,
'Brat'

Jay has been a great friend since the late 1960's working summers at Cook Forest. He was always at the Contact Station talking to young and old alike, telling stories and always smiling. He loved doing what he did as much as the campers loved him. How he put up with us kids interupting his lunch, his Sports Illustrated reading and ever present cup of coffee is a testament to what a public servant should be. He was always patient with campers but did become annoyed with stupid people which we thought was hilarious. He was part of a great team at CF for many years, many are gone now and I'm sure the stories are flying in heaven about chasing bears and chasing stupid people chasing bears and that kid from Baltimore who blew that damn horn all hours of the day and night just to get Jay fired up. If he used his famous mini bat at CF like he did at CL I would probably still have welts on my body! I miss you already and look forward to the day when I can apply to join the exclusive club that you are certainly already president of. I love you my friend and will always remember you with nothing but fond memories of a man that represented everything that is good in a person.

I was a nervous wreck! He was calm and patient and only threatened me once with his ball bat! We had such a great time riding around on all the back roads. Mr. Wolbert was a great friend of my dad's. Dad was always telling me stories about "Jay". I hope they are bowling buddies up there in Heaven!

I remember Mr. Wolbert as one of the best teachers. He often said that his mother would not let him out of the house without a dime for the pay phone if he was going to be late and a change of clothes in case he ended up in the ER. He showed us one day in the parking lot at the school what the pedal on his side of the car was for. We almost went through the dash. The students in the back weren't listening to his instructions. He also taught history and said that history will repeat itself. He encouraged us to take typing class to prepare us for the computers that would take over and he was right. He will be missed and now is now sitting in a"Plymouth" or similar car in heaven with his extra brake and his ball bat showing others how he dealt with Clarion-Limestone students. Rest in Peace Mr. Wolbert

Ruth Ann and girls, so sorry to hear of Jay's passing. My sympathy to you. Boy did Jay and I have some good times working at Ridge Camp. We started out in the "Nut Hole" at the entrance. It's a wonder we didn't burn down the building with that old kerosene heater. One of the many words of wisdom he passed along was when turning in any counts of people or campers, always give an odd number or they'll think you guessed. I followed that advise the remainder of my State Parks career. In addition to his students, he touched a lot of camper's lives. We met a lot of good people over the years. I'll bet he and Eddie Fulmer are already making things very interesting up above.

Every time I get into a car to drive, this man is sitting beside me. His words of wit and wisdom still ring in my ears and how he would probably be appalled at today's young drivers! I can remember him predicting the world of computers to us years ago, something we could not comprehend in our feeble high school brains but it all came to be as he had said. He was tough in a kind way and he listened but then maybe he had no choice trapped in a car with 3 or 4 students on a long summer's day! I still giggle at some of our conversations in class and the car. I am so pleased that my own children were able to have the Mr. Wolbert experience, also because there are not many like him . The extra special ones only come along once in a great while. God got a great one this time, blessings of strength and comfort to the family and may the memories make us smile.

I had Mr Wolbert as a teacher at CL. He also taught my mother when she was in high school. I am sorry for your loss. He was a great teacher and a very nice man.

My mom is Barb Niederriter. She was a cafeteria lady at C-L for years. I rode to school with her in the morning and was early every day. Back when you could do things like that...... I would get my stuff from my locker and wait there, usually leaning against. Mr. Wolbert would always come ask me if I was "holding up the wall". A very nice man even if he liked to tease.

Mr. Wolbert taught me many great things...including the ways of driving. My fondest was to never ask a question by asking if you can ask a question. Speak with command always. So, thank you, Mr. WOLBERT. Blessing be to the Family.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. Mr. Wolbert was one of my teachers. He taught my drivers ed class. I am sure I gave HIM a memorable moment when I was driving up the hill towards the Stahlman farm when my seat sprang back and I couldn't reach any of the pedals! He never said a word, but that little bat was tapping rather rapidly on the dashboard. He must have had nerves of steel to be a drivers ed teacher. I will miss him. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
