Obituary of Donna Rae Hartle

Donna Rae (Snyder) Hartle, age 63, of White Oak Drive, Lucinda, passed away peacefully at home early Saturday morning, July 11, 2015, after a long 2 year fierce fight with ovarian cancer. Donna was born September 18, 1951, in Brookville, PA, and is the daughter of Ruth J. (Lutz) Snyder and the late Leon W. Snyder. She was a 1969 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School, a graduate of Weaver Airline Personnel School, and a graduate of CCAP's (County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania) Academy for Excellence. Donna enjoyed family, friends, especially her grandsons, Clay and Casten, baking pies, cooking, gardening, traveling, and enjoyed eating out. She was married to William G. Hartle on June 3, 1972 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lucinda, and he survives. Also surviving is a son Mark A. Hartle, and his wife, Elisa of Leeper and their two sons, Clay and Casten Hartle. Survivors include her mother, Ruth Snyder of Lucinda and one sister, Pamela Niederriter and her husband, Ed of Fryburg, along with two nieces Adrienne Niederriter and fianc Costi Shami of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Claire Niederriter of Fryburg and Duke University. Survivors also include aunts, Grace Corbett, Norma Jean Heinrich, Peg Bauer, Lois Scott and Whoopie Snyder, an uncle, Dave Bowen, and her sister-in-laws, Sr. Germaine Hartle, Gayle Hartle and Elaine Hartle along with her brother-in laws, Jim Hartle and Gary Hartle; nephews Robert (Joie) Hartle, Hamad Hartle, Matt (Dianna) Hartle and Jon Hartle; a great nephew George Hartle and a great niece Jadzia Hartle, and many cousins and friends. Donna's list of survivor's would not be complete without her dear friends of the Knights and Ladies of the Square Table. She was preceded in death by her son, Ryan Hartle and her father, Leon Snyder. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Ladies Rosary Society of Lucinda. Donna's history of employment has entailed over 40 years in government ranging from the Federal Government, in the Central Intelligence Agency; State Government, as a Legislative Aide to then State Representative Fred McIlhattan; and, Secretary, Chief Clerk, and 3-term Clarion County Commissioner (retiring January 1, 2012). Donna was awarded the Outstanding Chief Clerk of Pennsylvania Award in 1989, and an Outstanding County Commissioner of Pennsylvania Award in 2009. As a Clarion County Commissioner, she served locally on the Boards dealing with Aging, Child Death Review Team, Clarion County Technology Task Force, Communications/Emergency Management, Economic Development, FEMA/VOCA, Local Elected Planning Committee, MH/MR/D&A, Northwest PA Regional Planning and Development Committee, Pandemic Flu Task Force, Retirement Board, Soil Conservation, Technology Advisory Group, and Tourism. She was most proud of securing over $1.1 million in Federal grants for equipment upgrades to the 9-1-1 Dispatch Center and police radio equipment. While her job as Chief Clerk and County Commissioner were still paramount in Clarion County, she also became involved at the CCAP level where she was elected Treasurer of CCAP for 7 years, on the Board of Directors, Personnel Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, County Governance Committee, Academy For Excellence Advisory Board, Vice-Chair of the PComp Board of Directors, a representative on PComp's Investment Committee, and served as Chairperson of the Finance Committee. She also received the honor of being named to the State Planning Board, which was by Pennsylvania Senate confirmation. Her commitment to her community included serving on the Clarion Hospital Board of Directors, Health Systems of Clarion, Inc., American Red Cross and the Senior Wellness Council, Clarion Rotary Club as Past President and Board Member, and the Clarion County United Way. Friends and family will be received from 6 - 8 on Sunday, July 12 and 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 on Monday, July 13 at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc., Route 66, Leeper, PA. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lucinda, with the Rev. Joseph Czarkowski, pastor, as celebrant. The service will be followed by a luncheon, which the family hopes you will attend. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Clarion Cancer Center, 150 Doctor's Lane, Suite 1, Clarion, PA, or the Clarion-Forest VNA, 271 Perkins Road, Clarion, PA. Both organizations provided a wonderful level of care and support during her time of need.
