Katherine R. Henschel, 81, of Marienville, died Friday afternoon, April 3, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. Born March 27, 1934 at Blue Mountain Lake, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ralph D. and Florence Wheeler Raymond.
She married Edward G. Henschel, Jr. on July 6, 1957 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Blue Mountain Lake, New York and he survives.
Katherine attended a 1 room school thru 4th grade. She graduated from Indian Lake Central High School and from Plattsburgh Teachers College. She was a waitress at Potters Hotel in Blue Mountain Lake. She taught school in Colonie, New York, Wynantskill, NY and was a substitute teacher at East Forest Elementary School. She also volunteered in the Marienville Library and later was employed there as a library aide. Katherine was a member of St. Ann's Church in Marienville, the Red Hatters and a local book club in Marienville. She helped with Big Brother/Big Sister and the March of Dimes and tutored for the Literacy Council. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crafts, crocheting, quilting, gardening and enjoyed traveling with her family to Michigan Sporting Events.
In addition to her husband, Katherine is survived by 2 daughters and 2 sons: Gail A. Henschel of Erie, Susan M. Henschel of Erie, Edward G. Henschel III and his wife, Barb of Darlington, Maryland and Jeffrey R. Henschel of Milford, Connecticut. She is also survived by 2 sisters and 1 brother: Elizabeth Raymond of Palm Harbor, Florida, Howard Raymond and his wife, Betty of Hudson Falls, New York, and Joan Pope of Canton, NY. She is survived by 1 grandchild, Meghin Henschel of Darlington, Maryland and one great grandson, Noah Henschel of Darlington, Maryland and a number of nieces and nephews.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 8, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Marienville with Rev. Christopher Barnes, pastor of the church, as celebrant. Interment will be in Blue Mountain Lake, NY at a later date.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, you may donate a book to the Forest County Library or donations to St. Ann Church in Marienville.
