Donna Jean Warner, 75, of Titusville, passed away Sunday night, May 5, 2013 at Titusville Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born February 18, 1938 in Breedtown, Pennsylvania she was the youngest child of the late Wesley & Kathryn Lamey Warner. Donna went to a 1 room school, formerly Center School, later to be renamed Cherry Tree School. She graduated from the former Colestock High School in Titusville. She then went on to graduate from Oil City School of Nursing in 1959. After graduation, Donna worked in nursing in Titusville and then Largo, Florida, coming back home to care for her mother until she passed away in 1965. In January 6, 1966, Donna entered the United States Air Force Nurse Corps. as 1st Lieutenant, going to Gunter Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama for her 3 weeks officer's basic training. Her first base was Offutt Air Force Base (SAC Command Headquarters) in Omaha, Nebraska, serving there for 1 year. In 1967 she reported to Brooks Air Force Base for 6 weeks training to become a flight nurse, earning her flight wings. The military fine print said because of her schooling then, that this nurse must serve a total of 4 years, rather than the original 2 years and she needed to go overseas, so off to Misawa Air Force Base in Misawa, Japan for 11 months she went. While stationed there, she was promoted to Captain. Returning stateside, Donna served at MAC Headquarters at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois, both as a flight nurse and at the receiving center for troops and families traveling with in the state to different military hospitals. Upon being honorably discharged in July 1970, she began civilian life as a registered nurse, working in the Midwest. Then being the proverbial "bad penny' , she came home to work with the elderly. Finally her health and doctors said " no more" and she retired in 1991. Donna is survived by a brother-in-law, Gerald Staub of Penny Farms, Florida and a sister-in-law, Patricia Warner of Titusville, Florida and several nieces and nephews living in Oklahoma, Texas & Florida. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Peanut. Being the last member of her immediate family, in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers and two sisters: Wesley (Dude) Warner, Ruth (Warner) Johnson, Eva (Warner) Staub and John Warner; and her two nephews William (Bill) Warner and Raymond Dewayne (Wayne or Guz) Johnson. At Donna's request, there will be no viewing hours or public memorial services. Donna's remains will be cared for by her friends at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper.
