Edward F. Dechant, 84, of Lucinda, died Monday night, February 13, 2012, after an extended illness. Born October, 31, 1927 in Strobleton, he was the son of Francis E. and Irene Bauer Dechant. He was united in marriage on October 18, 1949 to the former Cecelia K Karg. She preceded him in death on February 25, 2009.
Mr. Dechant was a member of St. Joseph Church in Lucinda.
Mr. Dechant was in the agricultural industry. He was the owner of Dechant Strawberry Farm since 1961, and a member of The Pennsylvania Farmers Union.
He is survived by 4 sons: Michael Joseph and his wife Veronica of Marienville, Joseph Henry of Shippenville, Mark Edward and his wife Agnes of Lucinda and Lee Allan and his wife Linda of Lucinda; he is also survived by 2 daughters: Julianna Hockman and her husband Anthony L. of Shippenville, and Genevieve Wright and her husband Jeffrey L. of Rochester Mills, PA. He is also survived by 3 sisters: Helen Rounds of Erie, Kay Janas of Erie and Marian Zelasky of Cary, NC. Mr. Dechant was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Beth, Amanda, Tony, Lori, Andy, Adam, Kegan, Jenna, Alicia, Breanna, and Marisa; along with 4 step great grandchildren: Devin, Donavan, Eileen, and Kathleen.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Dechant was preceded in death by a son Bernard Francis Dechant on November 23, 2009, 2 brothers: Raymond Dechant and Alfred Dechant and 4 sisters: Mary Louise Donahue, Rita Lander, Leona Fisher, and Dorothy Heintz.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 at the Borland Funeral Home Inc. in Leeper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Lucinda with Rev. William C. Miller, pastor as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The Family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Clarion Forest VNA.
