Obituary of Ruth E. Bowen

Ruth Elizabeth Bowen, 87, of Fort Valley, Georgia and formerly of Tylersburg, died Sunday, April 3, 2011 at the Church Home for the Aged in Fort Valley, Georgia. Born January 9, 1924, in Corry, PA, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo H. and Bertha B. Dey Young. She was married to Dallas C. Bowen on July 23, 1943 and he preceded her in death on November 27, 1991. Mrs. Bowen was a housewife and lived most of her life in Tylersburg on the family farm. She enjoyed working with flowers and was an avid reader. Mrs. Bowen is survived by six children, Joy E. Bowen of Louisiana, Clara Cussins and her husband, Samuel of Georgia, Harold Bowen and his wife, Faye of Arizona, George Bowen and his wife, Debra of North Carolina, Beverly Bowen of Georgia and Ronald Bowen and his wife, Mary of Brookville. She is survived by fifteen grandchildren and twenty eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by a son, Walter Ray Bowen, a sister, Bernice and a brother-in-law, LaVern Lawson. Friends and family may call on Friday, April 8, 2011, from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the funeral home with Rev. Roger Obermyer, retired minister, officiating. Interment will follow in the Kahletown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the local Alzheimer's Association.
