Lanny Hudson, devoted husband, father, proud Marine, and beloved family patriarch, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on April 6, 1951, Lanny lived a life defined by service, strength, and an unwavering love for his family.
Lanny proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, holding the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt). He served 20 years, during which he fulfilled various respected roles including Corrections Specialist, Recruiter, and Drill Instructor. His leadership, discipline, and dedication left a lasting impact on every Marine he mentored and led.
His service was recognized with multiple honors, including the Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Expert Badge (w/5 stars), Pistol Expert Badge (w/5 awards), Letters of Appreciation (2), Meritorious Mast (2), Unit Commendation, and a Certificate of Commendation. He also completed specialized military education in Learning Styles Training Strategies.
Lanny was the heart of his family—never one to sit silently, he always had a story to tell. His sharp wit, booming laughter, and endless supply of tales made him the center of attention wherever he went. Whether telling stories from his years in the service or sharing colorful memories from everyday life, he had a way of drawing people in and making them feel like they were part of something special.
Among the most cherished memories for his family were the legendary fishing trips they took together. Whether casting lines into tranquil lakes, surf fishing along the coast or simply enjoying the ocean breeze, Lanny's love of the outdoors and gift for storytelling made every trip unforgettable. These outings were more than just fishing—they were sacred family traditions, full of laughter, life lessons, and the joy of simply being together.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana Lynn Hudson; his children, Dennis Hudson (Tammy), Darrel Hudson (Misti Page), and Jessica Crosby (Charles); and his grandchildren, Justin Hudson (Hannah Cossaboon), Jason Hudson (Breann Morgan), Alexis Hudson (Steven Haught), Qwentin Crosby, Lillian Crosby (Brian Schill), Kamdyn Page and Lanny Hudson. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Gracie-Anne Hudson, Maci-Lynn Hudson, Leia Haught and Athena Haught.
He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Dolly Bolton (Kenneth); brothers, Joe Hudson (Sandra), David Hudson (Cathy); brother-in-law, Donald Steinman (Kristi); and sister-in-law, Dorene Jones, along with many nieces and nephews. He was an amazing uncle and a blessing to so many.
Lanny was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Winnie Hudson; his brother, Fred Hudson Jr.; his father- and mother-in-law, Herman and Isadora Steinman; brother-in-law Doug Steinman and his nephew, Donald Herman Steinman.
Family and friends will be received at Borland–Ensminger Funeral Home, Inc., 32936 PA-66, Leeper, PA 16233 on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. All who knew and loved him are welcome to come together, share memories, and honor a man who served his country and his family with fierce devotion. A graveside service will take place at Dehner Cemetery in Fryburg, PA on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 1:00pm.
