Obituary of Edward K Everett

Edward K. Everett, 87, of Leeper, died early Sunday morning, September 21, 2014 in his home. Born March 27, 1927, in Bradford, PA, he was the son of the late Edward Lloyd and Emily Kahle Everett Kellogg. Much of his early childhood was spent growing up in Leeper and Venus, PA. Ed attended Farmington Township School until 1941 before going to work at the age of 14 hauling coal. He always shared the story that he was hauling coal at age 14 and when he was 16 years of age he took his driver's test in a coal truck. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in June 1945 and served in Erlangen, Germany as a tank driver in the 6th Cavalry. He was always fond of the Sherman Tanks. After driving tanks he reenlisted in the Air Corps and spent time in Hawaii, and as Motor Sergeant on the island of Guam as well as at Andrews Air Base in Maryland. After the service he came back home to Leeper to continue working for the glass factory in Marienville as a maintenance man. He retired from the glass factory in 1982 after 33 years of service. He built his own home in Leeper in the early 1950's and was proud that he built it himself. Ed owned and operated his own auto salvage in Leeper for several years. He dealt in cars and auto parts to many local residents and customers would travel from all over to get the parts they needed. He was proud that at one time he had over 400 cars on his lot. Ed was well known for his repair knowledge of automobiles and mechanical repair skills. He was first married to the late Madelyn Joyce Walter. His second marriage was to Mildred (Millie) Moore who preceded him in death in June of 1999. Ed is survived by six sons and three daughters; Edward W. Everett and his wife, Patti of Corpus Christi, Texas; Norman D. Everett of Marienville, Robert A. Everett and his wife, Monique of Pittsburgh, David W. Everett and his wife, Deb of Shippenville, Paul D. Everett and his wife Carie, of Clarion, Mark E. Everett and his wife, Laura of Cranberry, Deborah C. Morris of Fryburg, Kim M. Karkoski and her husband, John of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, and Vonda M. Caldwell and her husband, Tim of Leeper. Ed is also survived by his loyal dog and companion Sonny. Edward has 21 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Velma (Sis) Kellogg Darga of Marion, Indiana. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Gary Kellogg. Friends will be received from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 on Thursday and 10 - 11 on Friday at Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper, PA. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday morning at 11:00 am with Rev. Jonathan Bell of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
